ITL First Open Innovation Call
The Institute of Clean Technologies (ITL) officially launched the First Open Innovation Callan initiative designed to accelerate the development, validation, and scaling of technological solutions aimed at addressing challenges in the mining and energy sectors.
The call will be open from November 19 to January 9, inviting applications from companies, startups, R&D centers, and technological organizations both in Chile and abroad.
This first edition marks a milestone for ITL, reinforcing its role as the coordinator of the Mining and Green Energy Hyper-Clustera model that seeks to drive innovation with territorial impact, strengthen technological capabilities, and promote a more sustainable, efficient, and competitive industry for the country.
During the event, the ITL team presented the structure of the process, its stages, eligibility requirements, and the priority technological challengesidentified by ITL, which include key areas such as:
- Low-impact mining
- Optimization of metallurgical processes
- Emission management
- Mining electromobility
- Innovation in renewable energy storage and use
- Industrial decarbonization
- Solutions to support the energy transition and grid resilience
The event also featured the keynote lecture “Innovation in Mining and Energy”delivered by economist and academic Eduardo Bitran, who examined the productive, environmental, and technological challenges facing Chile. He emphasized the strategic role of innovation in advancing toward a sustainable, high-performance mining sector. His presentation addressed fundamental topics such as productivity, territorial sustainability, development of technological suppliers, productive integration, and emerging opportunities in sectors such as batteries, lithium, and clean energies.
Attendees gained insight into ITL’s comprehensive vision for strengthening the innovation ecosystem in the Northern Macrozone, fostering collaboration among industry, technology companies and research centers, and building new capacities to address the challenges of the energy transition and the country’s sustainable development.
